Cake by post in the UK: how to order and plan delivery

We explain how cake by post works, from choosing the right contents to confirming preparation time, dispatch and delivery. Use this guide to plan a birthday parcel or a small gift sent across the UK mainland.

Cake by post is a product prepared and packed for a parcel journey. Our postal collection includes honey-cake slices, cake cards and other gift formats. A tall decorated celebration cake needs a separate conversation about collection or delivery.

Start with the recipient's address, the date you would like the gift and the amount of cake you want to send. We can then confirm the product and delivery arrangements before you order.

Check what is in the product

Similar names can describe different quantities. Honey Cake by Post contains one slice, approximately 55 g, while Cake by post contains two slices, approximately 110 g in total. The Happy Birthday Cake Card also contains two slices, with a personalised card and gift presentation.

Choose by contents and presentation rather than assuming a hamper or cake card always contains more cake. Our gift-format comparison explains the options.

An aim for next-day delivery starts from dispatch; it does not mean every order placed today can arrive tomorrow. Preparation and service availability both matter. Weekends and bank holidays can affect the plan.

Free tracked delivery to mainland England, Scotland and Wales is included with our postal products. Standard arrival dates are estimates unless we expressly agree a required delivery date. If your gift must arrive for a particular occasion, please contact us before ordering. We will confirm the preparation and delivery arrangements before payment. Read our delivery policy for the current arrangements.

Give us the recipient's complete details

  • Use the recipient's full name and address, including flat, building or business name where needed.
  • Check the postcode and whether the parcel goes to a home, reception desk or shared mailroom.
  • Make sure the recipient will be at that address and able to follow the product's storage instructions.
  • Tell us the occasion date and any access issue before the order is confirmed.

A letterbox-friendly product still needs a suitable opening and an accessible delivery point. If you are unsure, use our letterbox receiving checklist.

Add the message and check allergens

Some products offer a gift note, some a message on the card, and some a photo or message on the cake. Check the selected product's options and spelling before confirming it. Our cake-card guide shows how card and cake work together.

Honey-cake postal products list wheat, eggs and milk. Our kitchen handles allergens and cannot guarantee that any item is completely free from cross-contact. If the recipient has an allergy, check our allergen information and speak to us before choosing the gift.

When the parcel arrives

Check the packaging and follow the storage and use-by instructions supplied for that product. Postal packaging is not a reason to ignore its care instructions. If the packaging or cake is damaged, keep the order details and take photographs so we can investigate.

For a delayed parcel, check any tracking information provided and contact us with the order details. We will explain the next step. Our delivery and returns page sets out how delivery problems are handled.

These are the sorts of things Olga ends up explaining in messages before she confirms an order: what travels well, what complicates delivery, and what is better kept local.

Useful if the cake has to travel

Start with the by-post options

This is where Olga points people when they need standard-design honey cake, honey cake slices, or caramel biscuits vacuum-packed and sent as a parcel.

Questions people ask before ordering

The practical details that matter first

These are the bits customers usually want answered before they commit: freshness, delivery timing, and whether a postal cake is the right fit at all.

Does next-day delivery mean the cake arrives the day after ordering?

Not necessarily. Preparation, dispatch and delivery are separate stages. We confirm when the selected product can be prepared and posted, then the delivery service and expected arrival.

Can we arrange delivery for a fixed date?

Please ask before ordering if a particular delivery date is essential. We will confirm whether we can meet it before payment. Free tracked delivery is included for our postal products within mainland England, Scotland and Wales; standard arrival dates are estimates unless we expressly agree otherwise.

What should we do if a cake parcel is damaged?

Contact us as soon as reasonably possible with the order details and photographs. Keep the packaging while we investigate and explain the next step.

More notes if you are still weighing it up

These are the pieces people usually read next when they are deciding what can go in the post, what should stay local, and how much fuss the delivery should involve.

Choose the format that suits the journey

If the parcel has to go across the UK mainland, start with the cakes by post range for standard-design honey cake, honey cake slices, or caramel biscuits vacuum-packed for post. If the order depends on height, chilled fillings, or a detailed design brief, browse the custom cakes range for the celebration options that are better suited to local delivery, collection, or UK delivery by agreement.
