1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember preferences, keep features secure and, where you agree, measure how the website is used. This policy also covers similar technologies, such as browser storage, tags and scripts, where they store or access information on your device.

2. Types of cookies we use

We categorise cookies and similar technologies so you can choose what is right for you:

  • Essential cookies: Required for the website to function, keep forms secure, and remember consent choices.
  • Analytics cookies: Help us understand how the website is used so we can improve navigation and content.
  • Session-insight cookies: Support Microsoft Clarity heatmaps and session recordings when you enable that service.
  • Consent preference storage: Remembers your two optional-service choices in one first-party cookie.

3. Essential cookies

These cookies are needed for the website to operate securely and remember your choices. They cannot be switched off through our preference tool and do not track you for marketing.

Cookiecsrf-tokenPurposeHelps protect forms against cross-site request forgery.TypeFirst-party cookieDuration1 hour.

If we cannot save a privacy choice, we use temporary session storage called olgish_cookie_withdrawal and the current page’s browser history state to keep optional services off after a refresh. We remove this safeguard when we can save your choice; session storage also ends when you close the tab.

When we need to record a Google Analytics withdrawal, we keep the existing analytics identifier in local storage called olgish_analytics_withdrawal, with a browser-history fallback, so we can retry the request to our own server. We remove it when the request succeeds. Local storage has no automatic expiry; you can also clear it through your browser settings.

4. Analytics cookies

If you enable Google Analytics, we use it for page and journey analytics. This choice is separate from Microsoft Clarity.

CookiePurposeTypeDuration
Cookie_gaPurposeDistinguishes visitors for Google Analytics.TypeFirst-party cookieDurationUp to 2 years
Cookie_ga_*PurposePersists session state for the relevant Google Analytics property.TypeFirst-party cookieDurationUp to 2 years

Google Analytics cookie expiry may be renewed when you visit again with analytics enabled. This does not extend the 180-day period for your cookie preferences.

5. Session insights, Microsoft Clarity

If you enable Microsoft Clarity, we use it for heatmaps and session recordings. This can include page views, clicks, scrolls, heatmaps and session recordings. We keep Microsoft advertising storage disabled.

CookiePurposeTypeDuration
Cookie_clckPurposeKeeps a Clarity visitor identifier and preferences.TypeFirst-party cookieDurationUp to 1 year
Cookie_clskPurposeConnects page views into a single Clarity session.TypeFirst-party cookieDurationUp to 1 day

When you allow Clarity, it may also use session storage called _cltk to recognise the current browser tab. This lasts for the tab’s session, and we remove it when you turn Clarity off.

6. Advertising

We do not currently use Google Ads or Microsoft Advertising on this website. We keep advertising storage and personalisation disabled. If we introduce advertising technologies, we will update this policy and ask for a separate choice before using them.

7. Third-party services

Some optional cookies and similar technologies are provided by third-party services we use, including Google and Microsoft. These providers may process data outside the UK and apply their own cookie policies. We require consent before loading optional services.

The tables describe cookie lifetimes on your device. Information already held by Google or Microsoft has separate retention periods which vary by service, data type and provider settings. Expiry or removal of a cookie does not itself delete that information. Our Privacy Policy retention section explains the periods for Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity.

Read the current Google Analytics cookie information and Microsoft Clarity cookie information.

8. Managing your preferences

You can manage cookies at any time using the Manage cookies link in the footer. You can also clear cookies in your browser settings. We offer separate choices for Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. The website still works if you decline either or both of these optional services.

When you turn an optional service off, we stop using that service and remove its related optional storage where it is under our control. We refresh the page to unload active tracking scripts, so unfinished form entries may be lost. Your browser settings also let you remove cookies stored by third-party domains that we cannot remove directly.

9. Updates to this policy

We review this policy regularly and will update the cookie list if we add new tools or providers. The date at the top of this page shows when the policy was last updated.

Provider cookie lifetimes can vary with browser settings and provider updates. Your browser shows the expiry of cookies stored on your device. We review the deployed website when our tracking setup changes and update this policy where the cookies or similar technologies we observe have changed.
