Napoleon is a layered pastry cake. Our version has seven thin puff pastry layers with diplomat cream, which combines custard and fresh whipped cream. Expect a contrast between flaky pastry and soft cream rather than the even texture of a sponge cake.
You can see the available serving options and designs on our Napoleon cake page. This guide helps you decide whether its texture suits your occasion and what to ask for when ordering.
What the layers taste like
The pastry gives the cake its character, while the custard and whipped cream add a smooth filling. If you enjoy cream-filled pastries, Napoleon is a useful cake to try. The flavour is cream-led; honey is not the defining flavour as it is in Medovik.
Recipes and finishes vary between bakers. The seven-layer description is for our cake, so use the product details when comparing it with another version.
Napoleon, Medovik or Kyiv cake?
| If you enjoy | Consider | Main distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Flaky pastry and custard | Napoleon | Puff pastry with diplomat cream |
| Soft cake layers and honey | Medovik | Honey sponge with cream |
| Nut meringue and buttercream | Kyiv cake | Cashew crunch and richer creams |
Read our Medovik guide or Kyiv cake guide if those textures sound closer to what you enjoy.
Standard size and celebration finishes
Our standard Napoleon is rectangular, approximately 11 by 18 cm, and weighs around 1-1.1 kg. Other sizes and bespoke finishes are available. The product offers serving choices, so tell us both how many people will eat cake and whether it is dessert or a smaller party serving.
A birthday topper or fruit decoration can change the brief and price. Tell us about these additions before we confirm the order. A photograph is useful for decoration, but it does not establish a serving count; our cake portions guide explains how to choose.
Ingredients and serving arrangements
Napoleon contains wheat, eggs and milk. Fresh cream is part of the filling. For an allergy requirement, use our allergen information and contact us about the exact cake before ordering; a different decoration does not remove ingredients from the layers.
For a venue, agree who will receive the cake, where it will be kept and who will cut it. Keep its box supported from underneath when moving it. Ask for the cake-specific storage instructions with your order rather than applying instructions from a postal slice to a whole cream-filled cake.
Ordering for your date
Send us the celebration date, guest count, preferred decoration and delivery postcode. We will confirm availability, preparation time and whether collection or delivery is suitable. Read delivery and collection information or send a custom cake enquiry with the details of your event.
